Out from Under: Sober Dykes and Our Friends is a new anthology of the stories and dreams of those of us involved with recovery from alcoholism or drug addiction. The editor has announced a call for material from women who are making clean and sober lives in lesbian communities as well as in the communities of our birth cultures and classes. It is a call for material from any woman who has become a clean or sober dyke; or who loves clean and sober dykes; or who wants to live in a community where there is strength and joy and the beginning of an end to victimization in lesbian lives. Freehand, a learning community of women writers and photographers in Provincetown. Mass.. invites you to a seven-month residence of apprenticeship-by-the-sea. We offer excellence in poetry, prose, feminist and political theory, photography, bookmaking, visual composition, freehand drawing, quilting, massage, sonic, silent and dance meditation, music improvisation (we play piano, vibes, alto saxophone, percussion, guitar), and small business management. Cleveland's first major cultural event in support of the growing movement against the nuclear weapons race will take place on October 17 at Severance Hall. Sports

Celebrate women's participation in sports at the second annual Run, Jana, Row, the nation's only Women In Sports Weekend, September 23-26, 1982 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The week-end benefits the Fort Wayne Women's Bureau, which provides counseling, rape crists advocacy, job counseling and placement, and other women's services to Central Indiana. Sports events will include a women's softball tournament with four ASA or USSA divisions, a women's volleyball tournament, a S-kilometer run, and a golf tournament. Entry deadline for teams is *September 15, 1982. The feature attraction will be an exhibition game played by the Ft. Wayne Daisies, who played professional baseball from 1946-55. The Deicies were part of a national women's baseball league -that provided sports thrills during World War II. Of course, as soon as the boys came home from the war, the Daisies followed Rosie the Riveter into obscurity. The Cleveland Rape Crisis Center needs volunteers. Starting on Tuesday: September 7, the RCC will be holding a four-week workshop for interested yolunteers. Meetings will be on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Anyone wanting more information or to register should call the Center at 391-3914 and ask for the volunteer coordinator.

Become a member of ACTION for Battered Women in Ohio, a coalition of concerned individuals and domestic violence programs and workers. ACTION provides legislative alerts and information to keep people.up to date on potential and actual legislation that might have an impact on shelters and their residents, provides numerous in-services on a state and district fevel, and holds an annual conference. Twelve women were jailed in Illinois in June, tor thaining themselves in front of the 'Illinois Governor's office in their fight for the ERA. Freeze & Scream, initiated by the Red Balloon Collective and friends, has begun the enormous effort of organizing a nationwide moratorium.on business as usual, to begin on October 13, 1982 with 'direct actions planned for one day to strike at the heart of the war machine all across the country. This will be followed by two days of direct actions on November 12-13, three days in December, four days in January, and so on until the production and dissemination of nuclear weapons is reversed. The Free Medical Clinic of Greater Claveland is looking for physicians, nurse practitioners, physicians' assistants, or midwives to volunteer one evening (3 hours) per week to assist us in serving our female patient population. The Volunteer Projects component of Women Together, Inc. is conducting an on-going volunteer recruitment campaign to better serve battered women. Women Together needs volunteers in the areas of childcare, crisis-line phone service, support group facilitation, direct service counseling, and public speaking.
